Introduction
Perched at a height of 2085 mts, Pemayangste is the second oldest and the most important monastery in Sikkim. The haunting monastery of Pemayanste is poised above the River Rangit, has been reconstructed several times belongs to the tantric nyingma-pa sect initiated by Padma Sambhava in the 8th century. The monastery is three storeyed structure, it centres around a large hall where the images of Guru Rinpoche and Lhatsun Chempo and an exquisite displays of thangkas and murals are there. A Buddha scroll as a bug as 20 feet by 30 feet is displayed here at the annual Chaam dance festival attracts visitors all over Sikkim.
